Orientation and Mobility Specialist at Model Burlingame School

Responsibilities include:
• Providing direct services to K-12 students with visual impairments/orientation and mobility needs, including assessment, evaluation, and consultation
• Providing direct care and educational services in a supportive learning environment
• Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team in developing and adapting core curriculum with vision goals to suit students’ individual needs
• Working with families to support students in the classroom
• Developing and participating in IEPs with school districts and other professionals, including preparing written reports
• Overseeing the development of classroom staff, especially in the area of orientation and mobility

Preferred requirements:
• Valid California O&M Credential or Intern Credential authorizing services to K-12 students with orientation and mobility needs
• Experience working with children with visual impairments/orientation and mobility needs and movement challenges and/or developmental delay
• Demonstrated knowledge of current O&M instructional methodologies, technology, and best practices associated with students who have multiple disabilities
• Excellent communication skills and knowledge of proper English language usage, including enunciation, grammar and vocabulary
• Ability to lift students with variable weight, either independently or with assistance; push a specially adapted trike or wheelchair with student on board; and bend, squat and reach to change protective under garments,
• Interact on the floor with students, and assist in medical or behavioral emergencies and/or difficulties
• CPR and First Aid certification
